You know when people just get each other? They finish each others sentences– share the same fork– speak paragraphs with a single glance? Kayla and Ben are those people. High school sweet hearts. Longtime friends. When Ben moved to Panama for two years to be a missionary, he wrote Kayla every week. And she kept writing back.

It’s that kind of steadfast love. The kind those couples walking slowly on the beach encompass– the ones with too many wrinkles to count on the palms of their hands. The kind of love that you know will last.

Nowadays that kind of relationship seems rare. A twinkling agate among a sea of stones.

Richmond beach, WA

With temperatures inching into the 90′s these past couple days here in Edmonds, it’s official. The summer I thought might never come, has arrived. This means a trip to Costco to stock up on otter pops is in order along with many more days at the beach.
While we’re on the topic, here are some of my favorite beaches in the area (did you know beaches are on YELP? I had no idea. I guess anything can be yelped):
Richmond Beach-
So much sand, you can actually have a bonfire here, and not nearly as crowded as Golden Gardens.
Meadowdale Beach Park
To get to the beach you must take a 20 minute “hike” down a windy trail of northwest giantess trees. It’s freakishly cool in the forest, and once you hit the beach it’s insta-hot!

I’m also a bit of an ice cream junkie. So much that last year I wrote a story about ice cream truck drivers for The Seattle Weekly.
For my ice cream fix:
Molly Moons
Yes, I make the drive, and yes I wait in a half hour line for a scoop of lavender honey ice cream. It’s that good.
Peaks Frozen Custard
Okay. So custard isn’t really ice cream right? I kind of lump it in the same category. Needless to say, it’s BETTER than anything I’ve ever had. But, I was sick about a half hour later. All that egg yoke that makes it so thick and gooey really does a number on your insides. Plus side: because it’s so rich, I ate half of what I would at Molly Moons.

If I’m feeling healthy I make my favorite smoothie recipe:
Trader Joe’s frozen mango chunks (about a half cup)
half cup of ice
half a frozen banana
1/3 cup water or apple juice
wedge of lime juice

The story behind these pictures will be up soon. For now, see a bit of what I saw in Yangshuo, China.

Summer has finally swept into the northwest. Though as I write this the florescent glow of Seattle cloud cover dilates my eyes instead of sunshine, we did get several “true” summer weather days this week. I spent a few hours working in my garden yesterday (pictures to come) in the muggy hot weather loving nearly every moment of it.

A couple weeks back Brady and I drove up to Bellingham to visit our dear friends Eric and Jaren. It provided a much needed breath of fresh air from my busy and hectic schedule. I am so thankful for the moments when I can get away from my computer, Iphone, and everything that keeps my mind buzzing constantly with all the work I have to do to just take a break, and be light.

Eric foraged some nettles for dinner so we cooked up bow tie nettle pesto with walnuts (recipe below) and made nutty bread. After dinner we went on a perfect walk around quiet Bellingham as the sun was tucking into the skyline. The next morning we went to the Black Drop (very cute coffee shop in town) and later that night Brady and I shared a huge burrito at Casa Que Pasa. For both of us to eat and be absolutely stuffed it was something like $7. Needless to say, it was a great little weekend getaway. Thanks Eric and Jaren for welcoming us into your home and Bellingham!

Nettle Pesto:
6 cups fresh nettle, blanched in water for 1 minute
2 garlic cloves
1/3 cup walnuts
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper

Using a blender mix ingredients until a pesto consistency is achieved. Boil bow tie pasta and dress with nettle pesto. Make sure you use gloves when picking the nettles. After boiling the edibles they no longer can sting you.
Thanks to Lesile Williams at Wild Root Botanicals for the recipe!

Madeline and Anna have been best friends since birth. Therefore, it only made sense to do their senior portraits together. Of course, being the fashionable ladies these girls are, they opted for a more fashion-editorial inspired shoot. Both of them are awesome models! We had so much fun running around on the San Juan Islands shooting in these incredible locations.

It’s a beautiful Seattle day. Today I’m shooting the Mount Baker wedding of two genuine, kind people and couldn’t be more excited. I swear my heart feels like it’s been beating double-time. Lacey and Charlie are a couple so dear to my heart, I literally can’t wait to roll over to Lacey’s apartment and start documenting this day. This morning I’m at my computer sipping on green tea, and listening to Jose Gonzalez . Wherever you are, I hope you’re enjoying your day.

With the lack of sandal-wearing, beach-going, sun-bathing weather we’ve been having around Seattle I’ve been desperate for some warm imagery. More from the Olive Collection, taken in Athens, Greece. Can’t believe I lived here for 6 weeks.
