While floating in a basket 3,000 feet in the air the sun, just a little closer, hugs my face. It’s strange, but somehow, I feel safer flying in a bed of straw than I do in a 787 made out of 1,500 sheets of aluminum. Tom Hamilton (pictured below) of Airial Balloon twists the gasket to ignite flames into an open ball of air dressed in colorful fabric. The colors trigger the image of a different place and time… a parade down the streets of Calcutta.

Here’s a little peek at my recent shoot with country/jazz musician Teri Derr for her upcoming album. Teri’s fun personality made for an awesome shoot in Snohomish, one of my favorite cute little towns.

Kristy got in touch with me for some unique portrait photos. To give the shoot more of an “edgy” feel we shot these in the dirty ‘ole University District. I’ve lived in this area for several years, and can’t get enough of the grungy alley ways, great coffee/ chai shops (Trabant!) and the best thai in Seattle (Thai Tom). The sun was setting during our shoot, and we got some really lovely light. She’s using these shots to land her a modeling gig in LA! Yeah, girl. Kristy brought her adorable tiny puppy along, and we hit the streets. I got to hear a little bit about her fiance and her recent engagement. I adore hearing love stories. Hers is truly unique– she hit on her man in a bar.. with the line… “Are you gay?!” Strange coincidence.. after this shoot another friend told me she met her boyfriend by asking the same question. Nice ladies!

Lesile is a dancer with a bright, joyful personality. The whole shoot we both had huge smiles on our faces because this girl radiates so much positive energy! Her mom, who happens to be just as sweet as Lesile, came down for support and the three of us played around in grass, cherry blossoms and around the University of Washington. Lesile was down for trying anything. We even snuck into the UW library for a second. Needless to say I’m keeping my fingers crossed Lesile makes her big dance tryout these pictures are for. I have no doubt her head shots will catch the coach’s eyes. She’s gorgeous!

Here are some fashion/editorial shots of Brady MacDonald at a hidden part of Lopez island in the San Juans. We felt like we were in Ireland. Some of the jetted rocky landscape is mind blowing. But the best thing about getting away to the San Juan islands is you lose cellphone service as soon as you step off the ferry onto Lopez. Living for just two days with no internet, texts, or facebook was seriously rejuvenating.

Lopez isn’t a big tourist destination, and it’s mostly inhabited by artists. During the summer large amounts of bikers hit the island to take advantage of it’s flat roads. Otherwise the place remains pretty natural. Brady (who is a painter, and also my boyfriend) has been coming to Lopez since he was a kid. Lots of cooking, exploring and of course picture taking happened over the weekend. The first night we watched Chocolat, which is a film I’ve been wanting to see for seriously years. It lived up to its lure! I wanted Theo Chocolate like none other.
