Couples

Molly and Auston are dear, dear, friends who love making silly faces together, turning discarded furniture into modern re-purposed relics, and playing with their pup, Olive. Molly’s going to be giving birth at literally any moment (she’s just past her due date) and we all can’t wait to welcome the newest member of the Sligh family into the world! Best Christmas present ever. Hands down.

Spent a day at the fair with these two. We ran around like kids.

“Goats!”

“Elephant Ears!”

“The ring of fire!”

We took in the smell of musky hay and cotton candy. Ogled at baby pigs. Devoured a stack of curly fries so greasy the oil soaked into our pores. Watched the sun go down through the silhouette of a Ferris wheel.

Some days are perfect. This was one of them.

Getting married is awesome. But you know what’s also awesome? Celebrating your first year together… or second, or 12th. Taking a second to stop, look around, and realize how far you’ve come as a couple, just to do so. Just because.

A quick word about these two. They’re both talented designers– Chris makes websites and helps businesses with branding at Cinch and Sally is a ridiculously talented graphic designer. Be sure to check out her wedding invitations (so gorge) at La Happy! Sally loves color and J. Crew (can’t you tell?) and laughing, a lot. Chris likes good coffee (Vivace fan!) and keeping up on Wall Street. He too, enjoys a good laugh.

We spent the afternoon swapping stories, sipping wine, and chowing down sweet potato fries at Smith before heading to Volunteer Park. What a seriously wonderful day.

Step 1: Gather all of your friends from around the world (Latin America, Germany, the east coast, Colorado, ect) and invite them to camp with you for a week on Orcas Island, one of the most beautiful islands in the world.
Step 2: Consult your almanac and be lucky enough to have your outdoor gathering land on one of the most gorgeous days of summer.
Step 3: Be as kind and carefree as Marlaine and Erick.
Step 4: Hire local pizza-makers from Ani Sparks at the Inn at Ships Bay to roll their pizza oven over to your venue, and craft local, organic, and straight-up mouth-watering pizzas alllllll night long.
Step 5: Drink good beer. And hug a lot.

This was definitely one of my favorite wedding weekends of the summer. Marlaine & Erick are incredible and inspiring people who want to make this world a better place. I’m so glad I met these two! Look out for their wedding up next.

Big thanks to my partner in crime, Brady MacDonald for shooting this with me. Some of his images are in the mix.
